JULIE CIARDI
Julie Ciardi on why 50 isn’t a finish line — but the beginning of your Sage years.
When Julie Ciardi first appeared in the pages of FREQ, we explored her journey from global corporate executive to entrepreneur, mentor and advocate for women designing their lives on their own terms.
More than a year later, the conversation has evolved.
So has Julie.
The bestselling author of 50 Not Finished® and founder of IGNITE Her®, Julie is challenging one of the most deeply embedded paradigms women inherit: the belief that getting older means becoming less.
Less visible.
Less relevant.
Less ambitious.
Less alive.
She calls it the frequency of aging.
“Everything has a frequency,” Julie says. “Your thoughts, your body, your beliefs — all of it is vibrating, all of the time, and what you’re vibrating is what you’re pulling toward you.”
But, she argues, there is one frequency most women have never consciously examined: the story they have been taught about growing older.
Past your prime.
Over the hill.
Winding down.
Even the phrase aging gracefully can carry an unspoken instruction: become quieter.
Julie doesn’t buy it.
“Aging is a paradigm,” she says. “Most of us inherited the low expression of it and called it reality.”
“The wise woman with everything she has learned finally available to her at once — here to guide, to teach, to make her greatest impact.”
From Seeker to Sower to Sage
Julie has created her own framework for understanding the different stages of a woman’s life.
Not Maiden, Mother and Crone.
Seeker. Sower. Sage.
The Seeker is the explorer — the woman gathering experiences, testing possibilities and discovering who she is.
The Sower is the builder. She creates careers, families, businesses, relationships and foundations. She puts down roots and contributes to the world around her.
And then comes the Sage.
“50+,” Julie says. “The wise woman with everything she has learned finally available to her at once — here to guide, to teach, to make her greatest impact.”
The distinction matters.
Because the Sage years were never supposed to represent decline.
They were the years everything before them was preparing us for.
“We were all handed a story about getting older,” Julie says. “We absorbed it so early that most women have never once examined it.”
And perhaps that’s where the real opportunity lies: not in trying to stop aging, but in questioning the meaning we’ve attached to it.
Your purpose takes time
Julie’s own story is proof of the argument.
She spent 25 years in corporate, much of that time at IBM, ultimately becoming a Global Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Then, in 2018, she walked away.
She sold her house to fund the transition, left behind a significant corporate salary and stepped into entrepreneurship without knowing exactly how it would unfold.
For eighteen months, it didn’t.
The business struggled. Money became tight. The pressure affected her marriage. Julie found herself questioning why a woman with an MBA, decades of corporate experience and a proven track record could be so successful in one environment and struggle so profoundly in another.
Then she realised the question wasn’t simply What am I doing?
It was Who am I being?
That shift changed everything.
She began a six-year deep dive into personal growth and development, eventually building the body of work that would become the IGNITE Her® Frequencies.
The business followed.
And so did the book.
“I spent twenty-five years in corporate believing I was on a detour,” Julie says. “And every one of those years turned out to be raw material.”
That may be one of the most powerful ideas in her work.
Your life isn’t a series of wrong turns you have to recover from.
It’s material.
The career that didn’t fulfil you. The relationship that changed you. The years spent raising children. The business that failed. The decision you wish you’d made sooner.
None of it is necessarily wasted.
It may simply be information you haven’t learned how to use yet.
Wisdom is the asset that appreciates
Our culture has become remarkably skilled at celebrating youth while quietly diminishing age.
Julie wants to reverse that equation.
“Which means wisdom is the asset that appreciates with age — and it is the exact asset our culture has decided to discount.”
It is a radical proposition in a culture obsessed with looking younger, staying younger and behaving as though growing older is something to apologise for.
Julie sees something different.
She sees accumulated intelligence.
Pattern recognition.
Perspective.
Discernment.
The ability to see what matters — because you’ve finally experienced enough of what doesn’t.
She points to Florence Scovel Shinn, who published the book that established her reputation at 52, as an example of what becomes possible when women refuse to treat age as an expiration date.
Shinn wrote about what she called perfect self-expression — the idea that there is something uniquely yours to contribute, a place in the world that no one else can fill.
For Julie, that is the destination.
“The Life’s Work is not a thing you find,” she says. “It’s a thing that reveals itself, slowly, to a woman who keeps paying attention.”
The work of becoming
That philosophy now sits at the centre of IGNITE Her®.
Julie created the IGNITE Her® Frequencies as a system designed to help women understand their patterns, recognise their conditioning and get clearer on the particular contribution they are here to make.
The work draws together five bodies of knowledge, including the I Ching, Gene Keys, Human Design, Bob Proctor’s teachings and the work of Dr David Hawkins, which Julie has synthesised into her own framework of 64 patterns of being.
Every weekday morning, she teaches one of these frequencies through her Daily Frequency, a practice that has now continued for two years and reached women across more than 30 countries.
It is the consistency that matters to Julie.
Not the launch.
Not the headline.
The showing up.
“Anyone can have a good launch,” she says. “Almost nobody shows up every morning for two years.”
Her mission is to help women recognise that their greatest contribution may still be ahead of them.
Not despite their age.
Because of it.
50 is just the beginning
Julie is now 50 herself.
The book came at 50.
The system came at 50.
The company she built has grown into a multimillion-dollar business.
And she isn’t interested in pretending that the next chapter is the end of the story.
“I want a generation of women to arrive at fifty already knowing it’s a commissioning and not a decline,” she says.
That’s the bigger idea behind 50 Not Finished®.
It isn’t simply the title of a book.
It’s a challenge to the narrative.
A woman doesn’t become irrelevant because she has reached a certain age. She doesn’t have to shrink her ambition, hide her wisdom or make herself smaller to fit a culture that hasn’t caught up with her yet.
She can become more.
More discerning.
More courageous.
More herself.
And perhaps that is the real frequency shift.
Not fighting the years.
Not pretending you’re younger.
But finally understanding what all those years have given you.
Because your purpose was never designed to arrive fully formed at 22.
It was designed to unfold.
To deepen.
To ripen.
To become visible through experience.
“You are not behind,” Julie says. “You are becoming.”
And maybe that’s the message women of every age need to hear.
The best years aren’t necessarily the ones you’ve already lived.
They may be the ones you haven’t reached yet.
